1. Basil: Not only does this tasty herb keep mosquitoes away, it keeps flies away as well. It is easy to grow in a sunny location around the home and it can be grown in pots on window sills or on your patio.

2. Catnip: Your cat is going to thank you for this plant. You can enjoy the beauty of its purple and white flowers and the fact that he keeps away biting insects.

3. Citronella Grass: This perennial is often found as an ingredient in commercial repellents, and you have likely heard about citronella candles. Just plant the grass in a sunny spot of your lawn or garden and enjoy.

4. Lemon Balm: A close cousin to mint, this plant also keeps away mosquitoes with it’s sent. It does reseed on an annual basis, so keep a close eye on it so it doesn’t turn invasive.

5. Lemon Thyme: Lemon thyme smells fantastic but apparently, mosquitoes hate the smell of it. You can plant it in dry, sunny areas for the fragrance and the fact that the mosquitoes will be long gone.

6. Mint: Obviously, mosquitoes don’t have the same noses that humans have. Most people love the smell of mint but when you plant it around the home, mosquitoes are hard to find.

7. Lavender: Lavender is also a relaxing and lovely sent but bugs will stay far away. Many people enjoy the beauty of lavender as well, but you do need to be cautious about bees when you have it planted about.
