Jeans is the most popular fashion wear of the modern era. One in three people wears jeans in the world today. Bangladesh is now at a leading position in exporting jeans both to Europe and the US. Bangladesh holds the number one position in exporting jeans to Europe and third to the US.
Despite the fact that the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) or Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) do not have any statistic about the quantity of garments exported from Bangladesh to that regions, but around 82 per cent readymade garments are being exported to these two markets from Bangladesh. This figure was provided by the importers.
According to Eurostat, Bangladesh has exported denim (the cloth that is used to make jeans) clothes worth 56 crore euro to Europe, and United States International Trade Commission says the US has imported denim clothes worth $ 18.63 crore from Bangladesh this year.
Bangladeshi jeans are popular in foreign countries particularly for its cheap rate. Bangladeshi cheap labour and cheap rate of gas enable Bangladesh to sell a pair of jeans at 4 to 9 dollars.
The market of denim clothes around the world is of six thousand crore dollars, where we can only export $ 350 crore to 370 crore. So still there is a big opportunity for jeans makers in this market.
The big names of jeans brand that place order in Bangladesh for denim clothes are Tommy Jeans, G-Star, JACK & JONES, Spirit etc. The companies have switched to Bangladesh for denim clothes from other countries in recent years.
Jeans is a very popular wear in Bangladesh as well. People of all ages wear jeans and the demand is rising every day. The garment factory owners say Bangladesh has a big potential in this sector.
