The First Bengali poem, Charyapada 1 ( poet Luipada)
« on: July 31, 2009, 04:47:10 AM »
Here is a translation in English of the first Bengali poem Charyapada 1.

The body is like the finest tree, with five branches.
Darkness enters the restless mind.
Strengthen the quantity of Great Bliss, says Luyi.
Learn from asking the Guru.
Why does one meditate?
Surely one dies of happiness or unhappiness.
Set aside binding and fastening in false hope.
Embrace the wings of the Void.
Luyi says: I have seen this in meditation.
Inhalation and exhalation are seated on two stools.

[This translation I have collected from website. I forgot the address and other information]

Thank you Shahrear

"Beowulf", the epic poem is considering the first English poem, though there are controversial claim among critics regarding the first poem.
