Chemical Constituents: The plant contains an alkaloid achyranthine large amount of potash, hormones, ecdysterone and inokosterone, sterols saponis and amino acids. Leaves, stem and roots contain ecdysterone, alkaloids, sterol and saponins; Fitoterapia. Seeds yield entriacontane, saponins and oleanolic acid.
Properties and Use: The plant is purgative, diuretic, embolic, hypoglycemic, anti-fungal and antibacterial used in renal dropsy ad general anasarca, piles, colic, pneumonia, cough, leprosy and eczema. Roots are used as astringents to wounds, in abdominal tumour and stomach pain. Seeds are emetic, and used in hydrophobia; powdered seed with butter is given in biliousness.
