MBA (major in Finance)
« on: December 10, 2011, 03:43:07 PM »
I am a BBA graduate of Daffodil International University. I were registered here in 2008 January for spring semester and done my BBA (Major in Finance) here successfully (with full completion of 3 months internship) with 3.81 CGPA out of 4.00 from september-2001. So now I am eager to start MBA in this renowned university. But could not encourage myself for a serious technical problem. You know the job market is very competitive in finance sector but how can a MBA graduate compete with other universities student as this type of Finance major subject syllabus in MBA. I don't know. Are you known? The fundamental problem is lack of modern and dynamic finance related subjects aren't included our Finance MBA major syllabus. Our university's authority is holding same type of courses in BBA and MBA level. There are Corporate Finance, Working Capital Management, Bank Fund Management, International Business Finance, Financial Analysis & Control, Real Estate Finance and Security Analysis & Portfolio Management. But other well-know public (Dhaka University, IBA (Dhaka University), IBA (Jahangirnogor University) and private (NSU, AIUB,IUB, BRAC) are teaching their students world class finance related subject. These are Financial Derivatives & Engineering, Corporate Governance, Corporate Restructuring and Merger & Acquisition, Financial Institutions Management, International Risk & Currency Management, Alternative Investment (Hedge Fund, Private Equity, Venture Capital, REIT, and Commodities), Fixed Income Securities, Micro-finance, Behavioral Finance, Financial Case Studies. So our university's concern authority & policy maker should include these type of valuable finance related courses in their MBA syllabus and equipped our faculty members for these courses teaching capability. Otherwise Daffodil International University's MBA (major in Finance) students will not benefit in long term career progress in Finance related job market.

Tanvir, I totally agree with you. Some possible changes would be made for the Finance major students. Major and functional subjects are almost same in BBA and MBA syllabus. So it will become so tough to compete with the other University's graduates came from the same field with the traditional courses, syllabus and lecture materials.
Although some steps had already taken and some are on going process for the betterment of the business administration department and it's students. Wish and Hope with in a short period of time the standard of MBA, DIU will be increased and it will help the graduates to compete with the other University's graduates in the job market.

Dear Tanvir
Please visit me in person as soon as possible. You haven't checked our new syllabus yet. Before giving any post, you should have talked to the person concerned. Old syllabus has been updated. Before posting any comment, please think....

Dear Students

Our beloved university is always positive to ensure  quality education. To achieve this goal DIU has already taken some milestone initiatives
such as updated syllabus so that our favorite students can achieve highest acceptance in the job market and overcome  the modern business challenges with grand success, besides DIU is facilitating  our students with learning feedback system which is really absent  in other universities in Bangladesh.  It is also mentioned that since the inception of DIU, it has been recruiting qualified teachers who possess updated knowledge.
Provided that to compete in the job market a student should have good academic results, fluency in English, Presentation Skill, General Knowledge.
Always remember, a good university can provide the best guideline and you should take the sole initiative to abide by the guidelines made by  your teachers. One of my findings is that 80% of the students are reluctant (even after obtaining best guidelines) to change their fortune from worst to best(conditional).
As we know man is the architect of his own life. Time is Money which is said by Warren Buffet. So, make your time money by utilizing your time properly as advised by your teachers.

Best wishes.

Dear Tanvir

Your post is really an important one. And the immediate responses are also of praiseworthy. But what I can say to my students is that we will not learn everything in the class room or sometimes not in institutions. In Bangladesh probably there is a gap between the theories and learning that we learn in institution and the work we are to do in institution. Undoubtedly, this becomes the matter of frustration and  (...........). But the quick learners do not face the problems like this and it's the smarter decision to be always ready to learn that is unlearned. Usually the organization offers trainings and through this we also have the options to learn.

But at the same time it's very much true that institution should also make it updated with the need of the age and demand in the market. I also agree with the view of Shakwat sir regarding the students' reluctant tendency. I want to believe that the views of current students have been changed.
