Benefit of Rainwater
« on: June 08, 2012, 04:40:44 PM »
EPA and independent tests continue to prove that roof-collected rain water is often safer to drink, being free of the contaminants common to many ground water sources.
Rainwater is formed by the evaporation of the oceans and inland bodies of water. When the moisture condenses, it collects sulfur, which is essential to the formation of plant amino acids. Rainwater is high in nitrogen, a key constituent in chlorophyll, the greening ingredient essential to the production of carbohydrates through photosynthesis.
For Horticulture:
Gardens, trees, bedding and house plants are more likely to flourish when they always receive pure pH-balanced rainwater. What could be more natural?
For Horses, Cattle and other Livestock:
Animals are healthier when they always drink pure pH-balanced rainwater.
For Washing:
Simple soaps work very well on everything you wash with rainwater. Your skin and hair will be gently rinsed, clothes will come out much softer and cleaner, and dishes will sparkle like new.
For The long run:
Mineral-free rainwater makes plumbing deposits a thing of the past. A complete rainharvesting system will free you from the rising costs and concerns of the future.

The six basic components of a Rain Water Harvesting system include:
•   Catchments: roof surface to collect the rain
•   Conveyance: channels or pipes from roof or catchments area to storage
•   Roof washing: ‘first flush’ diverter system to filter and remove contaminants
•   Storage: cisterns or tanks where collected rainwater is securely stored – i.e. insect proof
•   Purification: includes filtration, ozone or UV light to purify the collected rainwater for potable use
•   Distribution: system that delivers the rainwater, usually including a small pump and pressure tank

Why Harvest the Rain is most suitable?
« Reply #2 on: June 20, 2012, 12:05:47 PM »
•   groundwater is scarce
•   groundwater is contaminated
•   terrain is rugged or mountainous
•   seismic & flooding events are common
•   the aquifer is at risk of saltwater intrusion
•   population density is low
•   electricity & water prices are rising
•   water is too hard or mineral laden
•   consumers must restrict salt/chlorine intake
•   where utility service is unreliable
... and where ...
•   conservation is an objective

Practical Advantages of RWH
•   Availability not subject to outside utility control
•   Not subject to pipelines interruption (seismic)
•   Quality is controlled by the consumer
•   Available even when power is interrupted
•   Reduces run-off and erosion
•   Available even when storms & disaster strike
•   Available immediately for fire suppression
•   Reduces mosquito breeding grounds (Dengue Fever)
•   Thermal mass can naturally cool buildings
•   Ideal for people on low sodium diets or with health concerns (weakened immunity systems)
Qualitative Advantage of RWH
•   naturally pure
•   naturally soft (no dissolved minerals)
•   free for those who collect it
•   sustainable
•   free of chlorine and its byproducts
•   free of pesticides and other man-made contaminants
•   abundantly available in Costa Rica
