Iago Aspas has insisted that he has not been brought in to replace Luis Suarez at Liverpool.
The 25-year-old Celta Vigo forward was confirmed to be making the switch to the Premier League side earlier in the week for a reported fee of 7.6 million pounds.
A deal has been agreed in principle, pending documentation, but Aspas is keen to work alongside Suarez - who has made no secret of his desire to join Real Madrid - rather than replace the Uruguayan in Brendan Rodgers' team.
"Liverpool are of the biggest clubs in the world and I am going there to take an important step in my career, not to be a replacement for anyone," the Spaniard told the Daily Mirror.
"I think it is time for me to take the next step in my career and Liverpool can help me do that. I have confidence in my ability to move forward and to grow as a player.
"I am excited to be going to England - I want to play in the Premier League. And I hope I will be helped to settle there by all the Spanish speakers at the club ... including Luis Suarez."
Aspas scored 12 goals in 34 appearances for Celta Vigo last season and also attracted interest from the likes of Valencia and Swansea before agreeing to move to Anfield.
